“Nice to meet you! I’m Jack, the drum tutor.

I have been fascinated by drums for as long as I can remember. I started formal lessons at the age of 11, worked through my grades and began to play in bands and ensembles before I left school in 2012. I went on to study Music at the University of Glasgow and achieved a masters degree (MA) with specialisms in percussion, Jazz and film music.

Whilst based in Glasgow I spent time writing, playing, producing and performing in a number of bands which achieved small local success with independent labels. I also began planning and delivering drum lessons to children in the city.

I later trained as a teacher at Canterbury Christ Church University and achieved a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (P.G.D.E). This included taking teaching role at a secondary school in Hastings, East Sussex. I fell in love with teaching and continuing in the role over a number of years explored opportunities to work in a range of subjects, including Music, English and Drama.

Informed by my experiences in schools, I have developed an evidence-based approach to teaching and learning, and have strong insight into how individuals can be best supported to achieve their goals. We are all unique players, and each require bespoke attention and lessons tailored to our needs. I have a range of traditional and more innovative drumming tips and techniques that I would love to share with you; my focus as your tutor will always be on differentiating my teaching to help you make progress.

At Dr Rocktopus we offer home-visit lessons in which noise-controlled, neighbour friendly equipment is provided, free of charge. We would also be glad to welcome to you to our e-drum studio based in St Leonards, East Sussex. Drums are the great passion of my life, and it is my mission to eradicate the obstacles between you and the development of your playing.
